FAQs

1)  When can I start testing my smart meter devices in order to get them SMDA assured?

The SMDA Scheme Operator is currently in the process of putting in place test houses. The test houses will be responsible for carrying out testing on the smart meter devices in accordance with the test specifications and processes developed by the Scheme. Once the test houses are appointed and before testing commences, contact details for the test houses will be made available on the Test Houses page.

2) How do I book my smart meter device(s) to be tested?

Prior to the commencement of testing of smart meter devices, test houses will be able to take bookings. Test house contact details will be available on this website in the How to get assured section. If you would like to be notified when you can start to book in devices to be tested, and when testing commences, please email smdaenquiries@gemserv.com and request to be added to our mailing list for news updates.

3) Do I need to be an SMDA member if I want to assure my devices?

You do not need to become an SMDA member in order to get your devices tested to obtain SMDA assurance. However there are certain benefits that are available to members of the scheme, that are not available to non-members, such as membership of the SMDA Working Group, access to all scheme documentation, and reductions on testing. To enquire about becoming an SMDA member, visit the How to become a member page.
